Above are some of my unicorn paintings that are currently for sale as "giclee" art prints.
The term "giclee" ( pronounced Jee-Clay or Zee-Clay ) is a fancy way of saying a super high quality ink jet printing. Its supposed to be a feminine French term for spraying or squirting. I don't know if this is true or not , but you can certainly impress your friends with your highbrow knowledge of Artsy lingo at your next formal dinner party by saying " Oh yes, I own several Giclee prints by Andy Mack, He's my favorite Artist !"
But seriously.....this kind of ink jet printing is quite a bit different than your average cheep, home ink jet printer.
The printer I use to reproduce my paintings provides a much higher quality image with far greater detail and accuracy than the average home ink jet printer. Also, unlike inexpensive ink jet printers, where the print is easily ruined by moisture, the inks I use are highly water resistant. I have read laboratory reports that claim the combination of ink and paper I use to make my prints will last 70 to 100 years when protected from environmental extremes. In other words use a little common sense and don't keep your prints someplace wet or in direct sunlight. But since this technology hasn't been around very long these projections are made by simulated ageing in the laboratory. So to find out how accurate this is we will have to wait 100 years and see. But in any case, I can assure you that the Prints I make are beautiful and of the highest quality, or I wouldn't sell them.
